WHAT COMES NEXT?
Welcome back! Hello everybody and welcome back to my blog! It’s been such a long time in which nothing and everything happened. Due to the Coronavirus I had to leave England in March and have since been back in Germany where I started my English studies in uni in November. If I’m being honest it’s not at all how I expected it to be but that’s a story for another day… I’ve been thinking about what to do with my blog now that I’m back home and I mean literally home with nowhere to go thanks to lockdowns and risks of infection. First I considered shutting it down completely and…

FEBRUARY…
This month has been a rollercoaster of emotions for me! I got to see my absolutely favourite musical of all time – “Hamilton”, my best au pair friend left and my best friend from home visited me! Let’s start at the beginning! I spent the first weekend of February in London together with Laura because her family visited her and she had accidentally booked a double room instead of a single one. We did some touristy things and I finally got to see the Tower of London again which had been on my list ever since I came here in August. Spending the whole weekend there also gave us the…

JANUARY…
January started off very slow. The days were still short and dark and rainy and earlier or later you’ll just run out of things to do inside the house. But after the first two weeks the sky started to clear up and the sun showed her warming face a little bit more every day. Spring was right around the corner! I felt more energetic and started going to the gym again (let me tell you it was a hard after nearly 5 weeks not being there) which felt great! I even beat my best running time and ran 10 minutes longer than before! Being grateful… This month was also a…

EDINBURGH ON A BUDGET…
We all love travelling don’t we? And if it wouldn’t be that expensive we’d do it all the time! What if I told you that I’ve spent four days in the beautiful city of Edinburgh and only payed about a 170 pounds? That’s affordable isn’t it? Keep on reading for some money-saving tricks and my must-sees in Scotlands historic capital city! Where do I stay? If you don’t care about staying in a room with strangers I have just the right place for you! The West End Hostel offers you a nice accomodation only 20 minutes away from the Princes Street Gardens for only 11 pounds a night! The dormitory…

I’M BACK…
Hello, hello I’m back again! So much happened during the last months and to be honest I just couldn’t get myself to writing. I know, shame on me! But now I’m here and ready to type till my fingers hurt and my brain is fried or till Ellie-may comes back from school. 😉 Anyways I thought the best way to do this is to give you a quick (real quick I won’t go too much into detail!) overview over every single month and then you are up-to-date with my life. Shall we start? October Ok, the last thing you’ve heard from was my trip to Edinburgh which was in October.…

OH THE ORGANISATION…
Since I did the take over on Instagram for Au Pair World a lot of people reached out to me and asked about the things I did before I came to England and also the things I did here right after my arrival. Doing an au pair year is unfortunately associated with some planning and organizing which might seem to be a lot at first, but once you get into it you’ll realise that it’s totally manageable. I’m here to help you after all! 😉 Before you go… You’ve found a host family and you’re sure they are the right family for you. Awesome! But what now? Depending on the…

MY TRIP TO EDINBURGH…
Long time no see! To be honest there really wasn’t anything interesting to write about apart from me drinking coffee and binge watching “The Spanish Princess”. I had to make a journey for something newsworthy to happen I guess! Travelling as an au pair means automatically that you travel on a budget because we are literally constantly broke – no matter how high our pocket money is we manage to have nothing left at the end of the month. 😉 I was looking for somebody to travel with me to Scotland or Ireland for a few days amongst my friends and in the end Johanna managed to get some days…

AUTUMN IS COMING…
Slowly but steady the days are getting shorter and colder here in Bracknell. That I was able to wear a short dress with a thin knitted jacket only about 3 weeks ago seems unbelievable now. I am in England already over a month and when I came here it was still summer and warm enough to wear my skirts. That time of the year is definitely over. I love autumn and couldn’t wait for Starbucks to bring out their Pumpkin Spice Latte again (I guess I’ve already had about 10 of them now :D). Cozy jumpers, knitted socks and hot chocolate in front of the TV watching my favourite series…

THE SPACE PROBLEM – PACKING YOUR SUITCASE
I pack my suitcase and take with me… What? That’s the question! It is hard to decide what to bring with you for one full or half a year. I struggled really hard because I just couldn’t make up my mind and wanted to take everything from my wardrobe. In the end I had two suitcases one really large and one to carry-on, one rucksack and one handbag. To give you an idea of the things I packed I’m gonna list some of them below. Clothes Underwear and Socks 4 Tops 6 T-Shirts 6 Jumpers 6 Trousers 2 Leggings 2 Dresses 1 Raincoat 2 Blazers 1 winter Jacket 1 leather…

FINDING THE RIGHT HOST FAMILY – QUESTION CATALOGUE
Finding the right host-family can be a little tricky but is perhaps the most important thing if you want to enjoy your time as an au pair. Even if it seems like the family is ideal at first you should definitely spend time in sorting out where your priorities lie and if they meet with theirs. I had to learn that the hard way. When you get in touch with host-families the key is to ask the right questions and not to be shy to ask anything you want to know. Before you do that however you should think about the things that are important to you as well! Write…
