THE SPACE PROBLEM – PACKING YOUR SUITCASE

I pack my suitcase and take with me… What? That’s the question! It is hard to decide what to bring with you for one full or half a year. I struggled really hard because I just couldn’t make up my mind and wanted to take everything from my wardrobe. In the end I had two suitcases one really large and one to carry-on, one rucksack and one handbag. To give you an idea of the things I packed I’m gonna list some of them below. Clothes Underwear and Socks 4 Tops 6 T-Shirts 6 Jumpers 6 Trousers 2 Leggings 2 Dresses 1 Raincoat 2 Blazers 1 winter Jacket 1 leather…

FINDING THE RIGHT HOST FAMILY – QUESTION CATALOGUE

Finding the right host-family can be a little tricky but is perhaps the most important thing if you want to enjoy your time as an au pair. Even if it seems like the family is ideal at first you should definitely spend time in sorting out where your priorities lie and if they meet with theirs. I had to learn that the hard way. When you get in touch with host-families the key is to ask the right questions and not to be shy to ask anything you want to know. Before you do that however you should think about the things that are important to you as well! Write…

    NEW FRIENDS…

Out of all the things that could have worried me before coming to England the thing I was worried about the most was finding new friends. I am usually quite good in making friends but I always relied on school or my hobbies to be a place to meet them. I did not have such a thing here for the first few weeks and I am really not the kind of person who goes out to clubs at night so how was I supposed to meet people? As soon as I set foot on English ground my concerns were allayed by a nice girl named Celina who came up to…

    ARRIVED AT LAST…

My first two weeks in England have also been the worst two weeks in England. It started off quite nice but then a big argument with my host family followed and lead to them kicking me out of the house. I was lucky enough to already know Johanna, another au pair working in Ascot, who took me in for the night. We bought chocolate cake, ice cream and wine and watched “Der Schuh des Manitou” (a German comedy). I don’t think I’ve ever had such a good break-up! 😉 The next day my new host-mum Rachel picked me up from Johanna. We had only met the day before and she…

    MY LITTLE CITY GUIDE

As I’m trying to get around a little while I’m here I thought I could do a little tour guide of all the city’s I’ve been to. I‘m going to include some general information I get from my good old friend Google but also tips and tricks from my visits of the respective city or town. Because I might visit some city’s more than one time I’ll maybe add some details later on. Enjoy!

ROUGH TIMES AND RAYS OF HOPE…

You have maybe realised that I haven’t blogged anything for about a week. Unfortunately my time-abroad-fairytale turned out to be a little time-abroad-nightmare! Things like that happen. I started to feel very unwell in my family for reasons I don’t want to specify any further. Let’s just say it wasn’t only them and it wasn’t only me but more everything together that just didn’t work out. I spend nights crying myself to sleep, missing my family and my friends at home, feeling lost and lonely but didn’t quite knew what I couldn’t cope with. I don’t think I’ve ever used Skype as much as I did during that time, calling…
